In this course you'll learn basic floor covering installation that includes both hands-on and classroom training. During the program, you will develop a basic skill set in order to be placed in employment at the advanced beginner level position. Upon program completion, you'll be ready to enter employment and continue your skill development with on-the-job experience. 

Training Topics

  • Floor covering introduction, estimating, measuring, floor prep, and moisture
  • Resilient introduction, sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl plank, luxury vinyl tile, and laminate installation
  • Hardwood introduction, engineered glue down, click and float installation
  • Carpet introduction, cushions, pad, stretch, pattern, berber, seaming, and steps installation
  • Ceramic tile introduction, setting materials, pattern, and backsplash installation
  • Nine-week review, next step certifications, job placement, basic business, industry pathways, testing and graduation

Certification

This Technical College Basic Floor Covering Installation program was created in partnership with International Certified Flooring Installers (CFI), Certified Tile Education Foundation (CTEF) and National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA), the recognized certifying and training associations for the floor covering industry.

Who Should Enroll?

This program is designed for individuals who want to gain basic floor covering installation skills.

Enrollment Requirements

Program is open to anyone interested in pursuing a career in the floor covering industry, regardless of high school diploma or GED.

Class Schedule and Cost

Date: February 3 – April 29, 2025 on Monday – Thursday from 8:00am–2:30pm
Location: Hawkeye Community College - Cedar Falls Center, 5330 Nordic Drive, Cedar Falls, Iowa
Cost: $1,725
